Shining Wires

Denver, CO, USA (Inactive)

This 3 piece set out to start the 90’s pop punk band that they never started in the 90’s. Taking their love for bands like Samiam, Seaweed and Hot Water Music, Shining Wires put their own spin on a beloved and familiar sound that they refused to let go of.

Signal To Trust

Minneapolis, MN, USA (Inactive)

Signal To Trust began with Jonathon Warnberg, Pete Biasi and Dave Storberg a few months after the breakup of The Misfires, the instrumentalists’ prior band, at the turn of the century in Minneapolis, MN. They were joined on vocals by Brandon Onward (Rouse) and played their first show on April 1, 2000. In September of 2000, they recorded 11 songs with Mike Wisti at Albatross in Chicago, IL and left for a West coast tour that October. By spring 2001, Brandon had left the band and the recordings were shelved. Signal To Trust’s would-be debut album, originally slated for April 2001, has finally been released for the first time ever in April 2021. What’s 20 years when the material is this good?!?! Although Signal To Trust would go on to achieve much with different lineups for many years following that first change, the original quartet made a lasting impression. Now a world of keen ears can hear why.

SPELLS

Denver, CO, USA (Active)

S.P.E.L.L.S. Spells SPELLS (SPELLS Rules!)

SPELLS is a five-piece rock juggernaut from Denver, CO. They are vacation rock to be exact. They produce short blasts of intense melody and driving rhythms that are custom made to entertain the band members themselves and serve as an excuse to go play shows in cities that have beaches nearby. If your city’s best offers include said beach and a good breakfast joint, count them in. If the best your city can do is a punk house that smells like cat shit and a Subway restaurant inside a gas station, they will pass. (Deek Chooglin)

State Drugs

Denver, CO, USA (Active)

State Drugs is a band from Denver, CO that try their best to make catchy yet refined songs, like they would have listened to 20 years ago. Think a mixed grab bag of Knapsack, Gin blossoms, Gameface, and Smoke or Fire doused in "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Slowly birthed at the end of 2015-early 2016 from fragments of songs hibernating on a hard drive, State Drugs released 3 EP's before partnering with Snappy Little Number Quality Audio Recordings and Toxic Pop Records to release a collections LP titled "Takings and Leaving" in 2019. In 2020 the digital EP, "666, Blah, Blah, Blah", was self-released by the band and featured a more focused sound. In 2021, the band will release their new LP "Live, Laugh, Love" in partnership with Snappy Little Numbers and Ashtray Monument Records. "It’s like the Gin Blossoms if only Dave Lombardo played drums" said some drunk passerby one time.

Steady Circuits

Santa Fe, NM, USA (Active)

Steady Circuits is a new solo project from New Mexico/Colorado-based musician Mike Marchant. If the name Mike Marchant sounds familiar, it's because he is one half of another SLN act, Lightning Cult. Steady Circuits is Mike's first true solo project since his 2018 return to music after a lengthy hiatus. "One Of Many Ends...", the first release under the Steady Circuits moniker, was a digital EP that was self-released at the end of 2020. The next release is a companion full length titled "... Of One Of Many Worlds" and will be issued by us here at SLN along with the New Mexico-based Cloud Command Sound imprint.

Sunday State

Portland, OR, USA (Active)

Sunday State began with Michael Carothers and Kurt Foster, two long-time musicians in the band-breeding ground of the Pacific Northwest who had known each other for 20 years. With nothing more than a casual, "Hey, wanna write a few songs together?" they began digging into instrumental demos Carothers had created. From the moment the two collaborated it was obvious the material taking shape had a particular voice worth exploring further. Recruiting Jeremy Dietz (Mission Spotlight) on bass, Thom Sullivan (The Pynnacles) on drums, and Steve Turner (Mudhoney/Green River) with his signature harmonic fuzz, the band developed a post-punk, campfire sing-a-long sound complete with cinematic landscapes tethered to jangle riffs rooted in their shared influences.

Sunshine Satellite

Denver, CO, USA (Active)

Rock and Roll. Denver. Do it. That’s the mission statement of Sunshine Satellite, which is made up of singer, guitarist and songwriter Sarah Heller (formerly of Stoli & The Beers). She can do it all (including bass on recordings), but chooses to leave the drumming up to her impressively skilled brother-in- law Tom Chagolla (currently of Native Daughters and Chap). The results are compact, sleek, tuneful and pummeling. Plug in, start, stop, go home. Blink and you might miss it, so keep your eyes wide open at all times.

Townies

Trinidad, CO, USA (Active)

Hello, Are you, like me, Richard H. Fantastic, a fan of classic punk rock? I’m talking “Decline of Western Civilization,” let’s piss everyone off and scare the olds, fuck the people in charge and fuck you *punk* punk. Meet Townies. A mostly unknown band from a mostly unknown town (Trinidad in very southern Colorado, population about 8500). As of my writing, this four piece has played four total live shows together, but is already signed on with the renowned boutique Denver-based record label Snappy Little Numbers. Their first full length album, Meet the Townies!, grapples with such issues as not liking the Beatles, not liking cops, not liking jazz, and not liking Texas weed tourists. The record truly has something for everyone.

Fond regards,

Richard “Dick” Fantastic

Velour Academy

Los Angeles, CA, USA (Active)

Originally formed in Los Angeles, California as a two-piece, made up of songwriter/bassist Jamil Kassimali and songwriter/vocalist Shannon Martinez, Velour Academy spent years perfecting their poppy punk sound on a series of demos before recording expanding to four members (adding drummer Matt Calderon and backup vocalist/keyboard player Itzel Palacios) and recording their first formal album, “Ooze”, in 2017. Now we have the group’s second full-length, entitled "CHISME", featuring the additional guitar of Justin Hall on the recording and newest member Zoe Scott moving forward. If you’re looking for a record to brighten up your day, this album would certainly do it. The album was originally self-released by the band in 2021 and has now been adopted by Denver, CO-based label Snappy Little Numbers, who will be re-releasing it March 4, 2022.

Young Hellions

Rapid City, SD, USA (Inactive)

One snowy weekend in December 2009, Bryce "The Beast" McPherson and Chuck "Papa Bear" Coffey drove from Denver, CO to Rapid City, SD to start a cross-state project with Johnny "J. Waylon Porcupine" Miller. They gathered for 36 hours and recorded 3 songs with Bryce on vocals/guitar, Chuck on bass/vocals and Johnny on drums/vocals. After a celebratory dinner, Bryce and Chuck drove off into the night back to Denver. Years passed. No band name. No shows. No release. The end. Or was it?! March 2012 saw a limited digital release of these 3 songs billed as the Young Hellions “Singles Still Steady” EP. In 2019 “Singles Still Steady” was resequenced, remastered and rereleased by Young Hellions as an installment in the Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings Hand Dubbed Buddies Club!

ZEPHR

Denver, CO, USA (Active)

Heart-on-sleeve punk rock from Denver, Colorado. ZEPHR began on a whim between three buddies, much like many other bands. But then that thing happened where it all clicked and they quickly became more than the sum of their parts. Each member contributes passion and ability in unison, and the result is nothing short of joy. You can hear it in their songs, and you can see it in their smiles when they play. On their debut full length, “Don’t Worry About It,” ZEPHR presents the listener with lean, melodic, punk rock tunes essenced with the earworms of powerpop, and the scrappiness of early 90’s indie rock. The record is both anthemic and intimate. It is gruff and also tender. Ultimately, it is something special. And we can all use a little more “special” in our lives right now.

ZZ Top Ramen

Remember all those older songs you like, but now you're into metal? ZZ Top Ramen has got you. Denver scene stalwarts Ben Pitts (To Be Eaten, The New Rome, False Cathedrals) and Brian Polk (Gravity Index, Joy Subtraction, Simulators) perform and record shredding covers of songs from non-shredding genres. Yep, it's pretty awesome.
